5 Columns; Prayer Wheels, May, 2017
Posts, bicycle wheels, metal, and colored ribbon.
I was asked to help with the Grandview Heights Column Project at Stevenson Elementary School. The given suggestions and requirements were as follows; Tibetan prayer wheels and column posts. The initial idea was 50-gallon drums mounted on posts. There were several concerns including time and budget restraints, procuring drums, and safety concerns that lead me to simply use a bicycle wheel. The result, like the restrictions I had with Hole, created a more layered and nuanced outcome.

Initial sketch.
To suggest diversity, I imagined different sizes and proportions.
At rest, the ribbons evoke the cylindrical shape of a prayer wheel.
Through movement, the phrases, poems, and prayers can be past along and carried away with the wind.
